Selectmen's Minutes - October 15, 1991

Hearing held regarding classification of property at 7:30 p.m. with two members of the Board of Assessors (Danner & Emerson) as required by law.  Assessor/Appraiser Cindy Long explained classification issues and recommended same rate for both residential and business.  Indicated value decrease of 9,000,000 based on the economy.  Andrews moved, 2nd Ellis to recommend equal classification rates for residential and business properties.  Voted 7-0.  

After discussion and noting that the Hanson Housing Authority agrees with the proposal, Mrs. Murdoch moved, 2nd Ellis that South Shore Housing Development Corporation should be designated as the certifying agency for the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agenfcy for the Home Improvement lOan Program.  Voted 4-1-0 (Andrews)

On request of David Bonney, Mr. Crowley moved, 2nd Andrews to issue a common victualer license for the First Baptist Church on 12/7/91 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Voted 5-0

E911 liaison designee appointment was postponed until after the October Town Meeting.  Both Chiefs will be polled to discover their preference.  

Motion by Andrews, 2nd Murdoch to designate Registrars of Voters to act as Selectmen's delegates for redistricting and to use Town Printing line for expenses.  Voted 5-0

Paul Vaitkus, Finance Committee, met with the Board to discuss the "budget sheets" initiated to track the large departments' expenses.  He noted that the Police and Fire are both over budget at this point.

Mr. Nugent reported that the Dias Case was postponed again.  Atty. Joel Bard has written directly to Chief Justice Steadman and asked him to intercede.  

Motin and vote to adjourn at 8:30 p.m.
